The Homemade Baby Food Way
"You know you're a mom when you understand why mama bear's porridge was cold". - unknown ... haha!!!!!
Throughout the last few years of my health and fitness journey, I have made it a priority to eat organic fruits, vegetables and meat. Our local farmers market is by far the best place and best price to get our weekly eats and Edee baby LOVES it!!! The way she sloppily gnaws on the peaches and apples handed out by vendors brings me so much joy!
I was adamant about making my own baby food but felt EXTREMELY intimidated as a first time mom. I know how to cook for myself but cooking for a baby while keeping in mind all of the different opinions and recommendations by all the various books, doctors, nutritionists is so very overwhelming. After doing some research, I made my move and purchased a baby food recipe book broken down by stages/ages and a baby food maker. BEST. THING. EVER. It is so very easy to use and makes you feel like an organic mama chef warrior. These glass jars by Sage Spoonfuls are great too because you can easily heat them up and serve right from the jar. Life simplified. :)
These staples are a GREAT jumping off point. And whatever you do, don't be intimidated by it. There is some prep time when preparing the food, especially if you are trying to make large batches of everything for the week. And you will have a little down time while the food is steaming but its worth every bit of time and effort... and the peace of mind knowing exactly where your baby's food is coming from and what is in it, for me, is everything. Now I cannot say I don't ever give edee jarred baby food from the grocery store, because that would be a lie. When traveling or on the road, it is sometimes extremely difficult to serve fresh homemade baby food. I buy the organic baby food jars from our local Lazy Acres (similar to Whole Foods) as a back-up. Every mom needs some wiggle room for the hair pulling days. ;) Always remember to just do the best you can and let the rest go.
Happy Monday lovelies!
